How much would you pay for a white painting?
When Serge drops a small fortune on a nearly blank canvas, his friend Marc is appalled. Their third friend, Yvan, already coming apart at the seams, gets caught somewhere in the middle. What begins as an argument about modern art quickly becomes something sharper: a mercilessly funny reckoning with taste, ego, resentment, and everything three old friends have carefully avoided saying to one another.
Witty, vicious, and painfully recognizable, Yasmina Reza’s 'ART' asks what happens when one absurd purchase exposes every crack in a friendship... and whether those bonds can survive once someone finally picks up the pen.
'ART' is the winner of the 1998 Tony Award for Best Play and the winner 1996 Olivier Award for Best Comedy.
